The Wells Chamber of Commerce updated its fall dining sheet on October 20, 2026. Most of the closures on it sit near the sand. Wells Beach Lobster Pound on Webhannet Drive has posted "We are now closed! See you in 2027!" Forbes Seafood Restaurant at 427 Mile Road and Rollover Cafe at 358 Mile Road are both listed as closed for the season, and so is Spinnakers at 139 Post Road.
The kitchens that stayed open sit on the harbor and along Route 1. Most of them now open fewer days a week. Through late October and November, the day of the week decides which of them you can choose from. Tuesday and Wednesday nights take the most planning.
The Mile Road split
Mile Road shows the pattern most clearly. Five addresses on the Chamber's October 20 sheet are on that one road, and these four serve lunch and dinner:
| Address | Kitchen | Status on the October 20 sheet |
|---|---|---|
| 73 Mile Road | Batson River Fish Camp | Open daily |
| 216 Mile Road | Billy's Chowder House | Open daily, 11:30 a.m. start |
| 358 Mile Road | Rollover Cafe | Closed for the season |
| 427 Mile Road | Forbes Seafood Restaurant | Closed for the season |
The two kitchens still open have the low addresses. Batson River Fish Camp says its Wells location is "just off Route 1 on the way to one of the best beaches in southern Maine." It is also the one Wells restaurant on this list that calls itself year-round, promising "our brand of year-round flavor." Batson's own site lists daily hours of 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Chamber sheet shows a slightly earlier 8:30 p.m. close Sunday through Thursday. If you're arriving late on a weeknight, call 207-360-7255 first.
Billy's Chowder House at 216 Mile Road is open seven days a week. The Chamber lists 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Unlike Batson, Billy's doesn't describe itself as year-round.
The fifth, Horizons Family Restaurant at 35 Mile Road, stays open as a breakfast stop. It serves from 6:30 a.m. until "noonish" every day but Thursday.
The harbor runs a five- and six-day week
Harbor Road is where the seafood dinner holds on longest, and its two kitchens close on different days. Fisherman's Catch at 134 Harbor Road is open every day except Wednesday. It serves 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday and Thursday, and until 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Hobbs Harborside at 352 Harbor Road runs Thursday through Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
Neither one has posted a 2026 closing date. So the harbor works this way for now: both are open Thursday through Monday, Fisherman's Catch alone covers Tuesday, and neither is open Wednesday. The Chamber's sheet ends with "Recommend calling to confirm hours, subject to change without notice," and that advice matters more each week into November.
Route 1 picks up the slack, unevenly
Post Road has the most open kitchens, and each has its own day off. Put together, the Chamber's listings show where the gaps fall:
| Kitchen | Address | Days closed |
|---|---|---|
| Mike's Clam Shack | 1150 Post Road | Monday, Tuesday |
| Brown's Clam Shanty | 198 Post Road | Wednesday |
| Sea Salt Fry Company | 231 Post Road | Tuesday, Wednesday |
| Seacoast Pizza & Pasta | 901 Post Road | Monday, Tuesday |
| Bitter End | 2118 Post Road | Tuesday |
| The Steakhouse | 1205 Post Road | Sunday, Monday |
| East Restaurant | 636 Post Road | None listed |
| The New England House Seafood & Sports Bar | 124 Post Road | None listed |
Tuesday has the most closures. Mike's Clam Shack, Sea Salt Fry Company, Seacoast Pizza & Pasta and Bitter End are all closed that night, and so is Hobbs Harborside on the harbor. The Steakhouse starts its week on Tuesday, open 4 to 8 p.m. through Thursday, until 8:30 on Friday, and 3 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. Brown's Clam Shanty serves until 7 p.m. on Tuesday. East Restaurant serves from 11 a.m. every day, to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The New England House opens at 7 a.m. daily.
Wednesday has a different set of closures. Brown's, Sea Salt and both Harbor Road kitchens are closed. Seacoast Pizza & Pasta reopens for its Wednesday-through-Sunday week, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Mike's Clam Shack is back from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
A clam-shack dinner is still possible every night of the week, but Mike's, Brown's and Sea Salt each close on different days. Only Batson River, Billy's, East and The New England House are listed as open all seven.
Mornings moved inland, and one address is new
Breakfast has also shifted away from the water. The biggest change on that list this fall is on Depot Road. Seacoastonline reported on September 28 that Ani's Bagel Café, which already runs a café in Exeter, New Hampshire, would open on October 11 at 175 Depot Road. That's across the street from Wells Elementary School and within walking distance of the high school and town hall. The menu covers bagels, sandwiches, smoothies, salads and coffee. Ani's own site now lists the Wells café as open daily from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., half an hour later than its Exeter location on Hampton Road.
The other morning stops are on Route 1 or farther inland, and most of them also skip a day:
- Congdon's Doughnuts, 1090 Post Road: Wednesday through Monday, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed Tuesday. The food truck park that shares its address has closed for the season.
- Bread and Roses Bakery, 616 Post Road: Thursday through Monday, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Baker Brü Cafe, 2073 B Post Road: closed Tuesday, opening at 7 a.m. Wednesday through Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday.
- Meserve's Market, 586 Quarry Road: Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m., with the kitchen closing at 7 p.m.
- Spillers Farm Store, 1054 Branch Road: daily, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday mornings follow the same pattern as Tuesday nights. Congdon's and Baker Brü are closed, and Bread and Roses doesn't open again until Thursday. Ani's daily schedule fills that Tuesday morning gap.
Three dates that fill the shorter weeks
In late fall, the Wells calendar also moves away from the beach and toward the Reserve and a Bills Lane start line. Each of these events falls on a day when the kitchens above are open.
- Saturday, October 31, 9 a.m. The Wells Reserve at Laudholm holds Trick or Trail, a costumed 5K that raises money for coastal conservation and restoration work in the Gulf of Maine. Both Harbor Road kitchens and every Post Road kitchen in the table above are open on a Saturday.
- Monday, November 9, noon to 1 p.m. The Reserve screens My Climate Future, a PBS documentary, followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker. Monday is a lighter lunch day, since Mike's, Seacoast Pizza and The Steakhouse are closed. Hobbs Harborside, Fisherman's Catch and Sea Salt are open.
- Saturday, November 14, 10 to 11 a.m. The 13th Annual Veterans Day 5K Road Race starts and finishes at Trailblazers Family Club, 102 Bills Lane, with proceeds going to Honor Flight Maine.
If you want to stay around after the film, the Reserve has another noon program on Thursday, November 19. UNH wildlife biology and conservation professor Adrienne Kovach will talk about tidal-marsh birds and their conservation. Hobbs Harborside reopens for its Thursday-through-Monday week that day.
Every schedule in this post comes from listings that, as the Chamber notes, can change without notice. The kitchens still open have posted no 2026 closing dates. Batson River is the only one that describes itself as year-round.
At Brick & Barn Real Estate, we follow how Seacoast towns change once the summer season ends, from which kitchens stay open to which days they close. If you're thinking about a year-round life in Wells, or wondering how its off-season compares with other coastal towns, contact us and we'll walk you through it.
